USF Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc.

OUR HISTORY

Chi Upsilon Sigma® was established on April 29, 1980 at the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey. Our founders are seven Latinas who had the desire to form an organization that would promote leadership in the community and to create a place away from home where members could feel a sense of family, which is a strong force in the Latino culture. We are the second-oldest Latin sorority, but the first to be independent as we are not affiliated with any other organizations or fraternities.

We are Latin-found, not Latin-bound as we welcome women of all backgrounds into our organization. Our sisterhood has a unique ability to draw in members who embrace our appreciation for family, individuality, and collaboration with each other. Our sisters take their dedication to new levels by creating bonds with members across chapters and regions. They recognize this lifelong membership as a highly rewarding experience, in which they impart knowledge and wisdom throughout their interactions with one another.

We pride ourselves in our mission to educate not only ourselves, but also the community. One of our organizational goals is to promote political, educational, cultural and social awareness. Another organizational goal is to be dedicated to servicing the community and those in need. We accomplish these goals through programming, philanthropies and hands-on community service.

OUR MISSION

We, the members of, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated®, aware of the prejudices and obstacles facing the minority women of our communities, dedicate ourselves to improving these conditions and to working towards the betterment of all women. We have unified ourselves through the sisterhood of Corazones Unidos Siempre and by our Founders’ ideals of open communication and community service, as well as the development of political, educational, cultural and social awareness. We devote ourselves to this challenge, to be achieved through hard work, patience and the collective effort to educate, as is exemplified in our motto, ‘Wisdom Through Education’.

OUR PURPOSE

We commit ourselves to Educating, Elevating, and Empowering® all Women:
